About Wimbly Lu Jalan Riang
Founded in 2011, Wimbly Lu at Jalan Riang is the OG outlet of the Wimbly Lu family. This café chain boasts of two more outlets, one at Tyrwhitt Road and one at Greenwood Avenue.
Wimbly Lu Jalan Riang is not exactly the most accessible and is about a 15 min walk from Serangoon MRT. The walk is well worth it to get away from the crowds and experience the quaint Jalan Riang neighbourhood.
Wimbly Lu’s ambience is really calming and quaint. The decoration is lovely and the noise level is not too loud somehow despite the place being full house most of the time. The furnishing for each table is unique as well which is really cool.
Besides this, the first thing that greets you is an irresistible selection of cakes, pies and chocolate truffles. We tried a whole range of these during our visit and list out all our favourites.
Which Dessert is Right for You?
For the No-Nonsense One: Simple is Best Waffle
My personal favourite is a comforting Simple is Best Waffle ($8). This is a plain waffle with a dusting of powdered sugar, accompanied by maple syrup and butter. This waffle strikes a perfect balance between a crisp exterior and a fluffy interior. It is not too sweet, which means you can layer on as much maple syrup as you like!
If you want to go for something fancier – Wimbly Lu does allow you to add on ice cream or various fixed toppings.
For the Chocolate Lover: Lava Cake
Those who love chocolate absolutely cannot miss out on the Lava Cake ($15). Wimbly Lu jazzes it up with added jam and cookies alongside the decadent cake and smooth vanilla ice cream.
They are just great at getting the addictive dark chocolate flavour right. It is also not too sweet and the jam goes well with the cake to ensure it doesn’t get overwhelming.
For the Sweet One: Going Bananas Crêpe
Wimbly Lu’s crêpes are really authentic, reminding me of what you get in Europe! If you have a sweet tooth, go all out with the Going Bananas Crepe ($14.8, also available as a waffle or pancake). This is piled high with caramelised bananas, smooth chocolate syrup and your choice of ice cream. Here we got the pistachio ice cream which was creamy with bits of actual pistachio.
For the Sophisticated One: Yuzu Lemon Cheesecake
Finally, we also really enjoyed the Yuzu Lemon Cheesecake ($8.5). The lemony flavour comes from the rich layer at the top of the cake. The yuzu part of it seems to be infused in the cheesecake itself. Overall this was quite a unique creation and worth a try.
Overall, Wimbly Lu’s coffee was pretty standard in terms of taste and pricing. We had a latte ($6) which was done up nicely.
The desserts at Wimbly Lu are delicious and there is truly something for everyone. Each item we tried was a winner and we will definitely be back to try more. The ambience is also lovely and a great place to spend an afternoon!
