Two Bakers (Teck Chye Terrace) is one of the more quaint and innovative bakeries / cafés that I’ve been to recently. It serves up a creative menu of artisan desserts which changes annually. For 2021, the entire food & dessert menu has a Japanese theme which we were so excited to try.
Two Bakers is located a short bus ride (or 5-10 min walk) from Serangoon MRT, along a bustling shophouse stretch home to other favourites like Taiwanese joint, 8 Degrees Bistro. It was not too crowded when we arrived on a Sunday evening.

Delicious Main Dishes
The menu is pretty compact, with about 12 choices of Japanese-fusion mains (or 11 choices for the brunch menu).
We were initially worried that it would be underwhelming since this is a dessert cafe after all. However, the food quality and combination of flavours far exceeded expectations!

Chili Crab Mac & Cheese ($22)
Verdict: Must Order!
This dish had a really great balance of creaminess from the cheese and sweet spiciness from the chili crab sauce. There were some chunks of crab meat (but not as much as we’d like!). Overall though, this unique creation is surprisingly addictive and did not get jelak at all. We wiped the plate clean.

Spicy Tuna Soba ($18)
Verdict: Must Order!
This was my absolute favourite. This has sublime cubes of melt-in-your-mouth sriracha tuna, creamy avocado slices and delicate, springy soba. Everything is coated in a savoury roasted sesame sauce that brings it all together. 10/10 coming back here again just for this.

Garlic Misozuke Pork Don ($16)
Verdict: Thank you, next.
Unfortunately, this don was a bit disappointing as the pork was under-seasoned and the rice was somewhat clumpy. You would probably want to give this a pass and stick with the pasta dishes.

Desserts: The Star of the Show
Two Bakers really takes desserts to the next level, with an extensive (and gorgeous) selection of confections in all shapes and sizes. You will find it virtually impossible to try just one.

Zen ($8)
Verdict: Must Order!
This one rocks (haha)! The “Zen” was delicious, consisting of a salty-sweet miso caramel centre, wrapped in matcha sponge and coated with black sesame mousse. It honestly looks like a pebble as well so that was pretty cool. Get a huge spoonful in there so you can scoop up some of that miso caramel core.

Sora ($8)
Verdict: Must Order!
I might be a bit biased here because I LOVE cheesecake. “Sora” is Two Baker’s version with a hint of lime, topped with fresh chantilly cream. I absolutely love how creamy and satisfying the cheesecake was, while still managing to have a light texture.

Hana ($8.5)
Verdict: Can Order
We definitely had to try a yuzu-themed creation, given that its such an iconic Japanese flavour. The “Hana” was a cheery creation with yuzu cream, vanilla sponge and a mandarin mousse exterior. The flavour profile was really delicate and balanced, with sweetness of the yuzu blending well with the slighty tangy mandarin.

Dango ($8.50)
Verdict: Thank you, next.
Everyone mistakenly thought that this was some longan-coated dessert but sadly it wasn’t. The “longan” is actually lychee gel wrapped in oolong mousse. While this was interesting to look at, it was underwhelming taste-wise and the texture felt oddly spongy.

Final Thoughts
I am so glad I discovered this place and will definitely be coming back here again for their spicy tuna soba and the amazingly creative desserts. Looking forward to enjoying the 2021 menu, as well as seeing what they have in store for us next year!
