The Clan Hotel Review: Hidden Infinity Pool & Chill Vibes in the CBD

Opening its doors in March 2021, The Clan Hotel is a classy new addition to the CBD hotel scene. Impressed by the stellar 4.5+ star rating on Google, we booked a night there to celebrate our anniversary.

Convenient City-Centre Location

The Clan Hotel is literally a 3-min walk from Telok Ayer MRT. It is also just a stone’s throw away from many amazing cafés, restaurants and famous hawker centres like Amoy Street. Being so well-placed to step out and start exploring our very own city-centre is a huge plus.

Smooth Check-In Process

Upon arriving, the first thing you notice is The Clan Hotel’s mysterious club-like entrance (above). Only guests are allowed to even tap in to the building which is great as you don’t get strangers milling around.

Check-in was a breeze, with the counter staff efficiently completing check-in for us within 15 minutes as it was not a busy day. She even sat with us with go through nitty-gritty; pool bookings, gym bookings (1x 1-hour slot each), breakfast timings etc and answer any questions we had. A+ for service!

Unbeatable Late Check-Out

We had booked the Klook Weekday Staycation deal which included the Deluxe Room (24 sqm), 4pm late checkout and breakfast at just $348 BEFORE SingaporeRediscovers Vouchers.

I have yet to find another package that allows such a late checkout without tacking on a large additional cost. Whether it is due to The Clan Hotel being newer or the of impact repeated lockdowns, I don’t expect this amazing deal to last very long so grab it while you can.

Compact Room with Lovely City Views

The Deluxe Room felt a bit small but we had expected that and were fine with it. Can’t get both a great location & spaciousness without paying a bomb. The fluffy King-sized bed took up most of the space with only narrow walkways around it.

The Clan Hotel Window Nook

We absolutely loved the reading nook (below) and the fantastic views that came with it. We were extremely lucky to get the side facing Chinatown where it is mostly low-rises allowing for us to see pretty far out.

Note that this facing does get afternoon sun BUT this is dealt with by excellent UV-proofed windows so you barely feel it. You also get to see an amazing sunset right from this window.

Small Touches Make All the Difference

We were also impressed with the level of care and thought The Clan Hotel put into all aspects of the room experience.

In-room British Breakfast Tea and Tie Guan Yin teabags are curated by Pryce Tea (which, fun fact, is actually slightly more expensive than TWG). They come in sturdy, cool-looking metal jars.

For coffee, there are standard Nespresso capsules and a Nespresso machine as well as various instant blends. Snacks include a nice balance of something salty (Ruffles) and something sweet (very addictive chocolate-chip cookies).

The Clan Hotel Refreshments

By far one of our favourite things was this Hyflux filtered water tap. This totally does away with the need to repeatedly boil water and wait for it to cool down by dispensing room-temperature, drinkable water immediately.

There was also a heated Japanese toilet seat (which we didn’t photograph for reasons) as well as a rain shower. No bathtub for this compact room configuration though!

One final touch that was so sweet was that they remembered it was our anniversary and totally surprised us by delivering a cake to our room! It came with a handwritten note with well-wishes. Big aww.

Fantastic Skyline Views from Infinity Pool

Now for the star of the show; Clan Hotel’s infinity pool on the 30th floor. This surprisingly well-kept secret features stunning, unblocked views all the way to Chinatown, Tanjong Pagar and beyond.

Besides the views, another plus point was that the pool was not very crowded. It was at less than 50% occupancy, maybe we because we were there on a weekday. We were even offered a second 1-hour slot the next day and had the pool entirely to ourselves.

Do take note though that the view on the left side features mainly skyscrapers which may be disappointing to some. The pool is also fairly small, so it is not suited for those looking to do laps .

Even so, the buildings are sufficiently far away and the whole area is still perfect for a relaxing soak and suntan.

We couldn’t get enough of the view and stayed to watch the beautiful sunset.

Standard Breakfast Set, Toast & Fruits

I definitely miss having free-flow breakfast buffets. With Covid-19, more and more hotels have been converting to a single breakfast-set format. The Clan Hotel has done just that, with a choice of 4-5 themed sets (American, Chinese, Pancakes, Healthy etc). One set per person is already included in the Klook room package.

Every set comes with a slice of traditional toast with kaya and cake. I really loved this attention to detail and the commitment to bring the experience more in line with the traditional Chinese clan theme they are going for.

The fruit cocktail was also very fresh, not too sweet and chock-full of antioxidants like blueberries and strawberries.

We both opted for the Western Breakfast that came with all the fixings; fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy hash browns and crunchy bacon. I felt that it was great quality overall.

However, the portion was slightly too small for my partner and he also bemoaned the small portion of just 2 strips of bacon. We really, really miss being able to load up our plates on the specific dishes we like.

The Verdict: Amazing Location, Views & Service

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Clan Hotel. Service was impeccable, the views are top-notch, overall aesthetics were very polished, location is right in the heart of the city… the list goes on.

Side note, I had actually left a charging cable in the room and had all but written it off, but the Clan Hotel concierge swiftly contacted me and mailed the cable back to me at no cost. Like I said, A+ for service.

We had expected a new hotel to have some teething issues but were more than glad to have all our expectations exceeded instead. It is definitely a 5 out of 5 from me!
