We discovered Springleaf Taiwan Porridge fairly recently while attempting to satisfy a porridge craving on a cold day. Since then, the (free-flow!) homely porridge and tasty dishes have kept us coming back for more.
This hidden gem is not too far from the famous Casuarina Curry Thomson outlet. While it’s not the easiest to get to, trust me when I say the journey is definitely worth it. Read on for all our favourite dishes!

Fresh Bean Curd with Pork Floss & Sauce ($14.80 for M)
Verdict: Can Order
This was surprisingly yummy for such a simple dish, owing to the mysterious savoury sauce coating the fresh tofu and generous helping of pork floss. It’s a great appetiser, would order again.

Fried Brinjal with Minced Pork ($15.80 for M)
Verdict: Must Order!
Springleaf Taiwanese Porridge does this dish beautifully. They take the additional effort to fry the brinjal up nicely so each piece has a springy exterior while remaining moist and fluffy inside. Major love for this one.

Chai-Poh Omelette ($6.80)
Verdict: Must Order!
A house specialty, this is present on every table. They have a way of making the egg incredibly fluffy yet not too oily. Loved it and I only wish they would give a bigger portion!

Sliced Fish with Black Beans & Leek ($18.80 for M)
Verdict: Must Order!
This was delicious and devoured way too quickly. The fish was really tender and the black bean sauce was incredibly addictive when added to the porridge.

Steamed Minced Pork with Egg Yolk ($14.80 for M)
Verdict: Can Order
The steamed pork was savoury and satisfying, with the meat being just the right tenderness and blending well with the egg yolk.

Deep Fried Baby Squid ($21.80)
Verdict: Can Order
We saw a lot of people ordering this and couldn’t resist giving it a try. While tasty and well-seasoned, I felt that this could have been way better if it arrived hotter and a bit crunchier. Nevertheless, not bad overall.

Fried Clams with Ginger & Spring Onion ($15.80)
Verdict: Must Order!
This dish is hands-down my favourite of the lot. This consists of plump, juicy clams drenched with the most delicious sauce that is packed full of umami and wok-hei. Would come back again and again just for this.

The Verdict
It’s safe to say that we are in love with Springleaf Taiwan Porridge and hope you enjoy it as much as we do. 🙂 If you are headed down, do make a reservation before heading down at peak periods though as the queue can be anywhere from 30min-1hr without one. Till next time!
