Hatter Street Bakehouse & Cafe: 5 min walk from Kovan MRT
Hatter Street is a uniquely designed dessert bar located on the busy Hougang Street 21 food stretch, specializing in ice cream and waffles. It certain is popular and was bustling with young people and couples when we arrived on a Friday night.
The seating area is limited and best for groups of 2-4 people maximum. The indoor seating felt slightly cramped but is worth it if you want to experience the whimsical interior design.

You can choose between waffles (‘whoaffles’) and ice cream. As we were pretty full from dinner, we decided to get just ice cream. Most people around us had gotten the waffles, so maybe we will try those next time. 🙂

Psychedelic Ice Cream Flavors
The ice cream flavors ($4 per scoop) are all colored fantastic shades of mermaid/ unicorn/ My Little Pony. While it is quite unique and fitting with the theme, it did get me a bit worried that the ice cream would taste too artificial.

It was a needless worry though, as the peppermint and pandan tasted great. Pandan in particular is a pretty rare flavor to see in most ice cream shops and we loved Hatter Street’s version.
However, the lavender white chocolate did have too strong of a lavender taste, making it a bit too herbal/medicine-like.

We also got a Soda Float which was pretty standard (A&W Root Beer + Vanilla Ice Cream). Not bad but nothing much to shout about.

The Verdict
Overall, this was a nice place to chill at in the evening and enjoy the lovely decor.
Food: Desserts were okay, would come back if I was in the area but not something I would make a special trip down for.
Value-for-Money: Average priced vs similar dessert chains.
Atmosphere: Very unique Alice-in-Wonderland design. Love it.
Location: Convenient. Only a 5 mins walk from Kovan MRT.
Rach Recommends: Also try Wimbly Lu, another quaint cafe in the nearby Serangoon area with an Alice-in-Wonderland feel.
